BE IMITATORS OF GOD

One definition of “imitate” “become like in appearance”. Certainly this is not what Paul meant, rather we are to “follow the example” of God.

Paul said that “we should be immitators of God, as beloved children, and be walking in love”.

There it is, the way in which we become “imitators of God, it is through “love”..love of God, through Christ, our fellow man and all creatures, as well as that of ourselves.

We accomplish this by living a life that is honorable, and when there might be doubt as to what action to take we should ask ourselves, what would God do, or rather what would God have us do.

This is usually determined by ones conscience..which I consider God's way of making us aware of  "right"  from "wrong".

As a member of the body of Jesus Christ, we should follow His example.

His love was absolute, even to death.

We will never experience what Jesus did to demonstrate that love for God and mankind, but we may be asked to remain firm in love and our belief, at times when this is not the easy way.

We become imitators of God when we live life honorably through love..paulnbob

Let me introduce you to Manly P. Hall, world reknown philosopher of the 20th Century, founder of the Philisophical Research Center in LA.

He traveled the world absorbing himself in the world’s religions, searching for the truth, and found it at his doorstep, just before his passing  in 1990, when he became a “believer”.

I had the pleasure of attending his lectures on many occasions, at which time he emphasized the need for "love" in our daily activities. I lived  for some years just a block away, and enjoyed my visits to the center's bookstore.

Two books I recommend highly, THE MYSTICAL CHRIST and a book I read each morning, DAILY WORDS OF WISDOM.

Recently I read these words that tie-in so well to being “imitators”.

“Our greatest and most acceptable prayer is a good life, wisely and nobly lived. For it is by living better, through better understanding,  that we glorify God.”
