9. BULLY PULPIT

Thanks to this blog, I'm provided with a Bully Pulpit, which by definition is a “position from which one may expound one’s views to a wide audience."

I don't know how "wide" my audience is or how many readers I have, but it gives me great joy to be able expound on subjects I hold near and dear, such as The Obscure Teachings of Paul.

My strange life has seen me perform in 4 different one-man plays, over 20 years..all intended to bring the humaneness  of those portrayed.  Paul of course in ALLTHINGS TO ALL MEN, The Life of St. Paul, Jesus in ROAD TO BETHANY, The Passion Play, Jacob in JACOB/ISRAEL..PATRIARCHS' SONG PART II , and Moses in TELL IT ON THE MOUNTAIN..MOSES.  in each I take dramatic license to flesh out the character, so as to present a real human being.

I use this rather extensively in presenting Saul/Paul.  You must realize that in order to "hold" an audience for nearly one hour, the play must be, not only interesting..informative,  but dramatic and thus entertaining.

You may recall that I believed that Paul had a wife and in my back story, I killed her off.  I use this recollection, following a scene where I indicate that Paul was tempted and taunted by women, showing he's human, who either flocked to him like he's "a rock star", or tempted him, because of his apparent "exalted" position. But he tears away from these thoughts and then remembrance of his wife, "I loved a woman once, but.." loss too painful to continue.

Paul's life provided ready-made drama, starting with the "stoning of Steven"..what could be more dramatic; and then "the Road to Damascus", "earthquake at Philippi", "whipping at Ephesus", "shipwreck".."confrontation with Caesar", exiting while exalting "Remember the victory of Jesus Christ!"

Drama is one thing, but there has to be humor as well, and I incorporate this rather extensively, by making Paul a story teller.

Now, all of this is done, in order to incorporate  his truths, while entertaining.

You should realize that my play was presented in the main in religious venues, churches, schools, and once again, were I to simply state what I believed and wanted others to believe     what Paul was teaching, not a single church would've hired me.

Yet, this was the venue that would be receptive to a play about Paul, virtually the only venue, as I was not a recognizable actor, and the subject is not necessarily one would consider commercial.

God wanted me to bring his message to somebody or some people and I did it. As I said over 140,000 attended, and surely somebody or other came to believe.  So, I accomplished my mission for the Father.  How successively, I don't know, but I did the best I knew how.

Now, I'm using my Bully Pulpit to bring this message of Paul's teaching to another audience.

Evidently, God wanted it done..maybe a little upset that the mainline churches don't teach anything resembling the truth.

So, I'm going to throw it out in the most informative and entertaining way I can..someone of you, I probably won't know who, will understand and believe, because God has given you the grace to understand.. bob4Paul
