147..MERRY CHRISTMAS

In the words of Dickens’ Scrooge,

“Bah, humbug !”(But for a differen reason)

Many religious  figures are urging that Christ be put back into Christmas,  and I say HE doesn’t belong there!

Let’s keep this day  one of family get-togethers and joyous giving, along with  great songs,   but keep anything  spiritual,  or God–like worshipping out of it..Let Santa reign!

Then again, don’t forget what Paul said about  celebrating” special days”..every day is special  to the Lord.

Let me tell of the many ways that  the birth of Jesus shouldn’t be celebrated  on the 25th of December.

Let’s start with the origin of this “holy” day.

The Roman emperor made a decree that this date would be recognized as an official holiday, in the 4th Century AD.

It was intended to celebrate  the birthday of the “unconquered god”, and it was the the beginning of the Winter Solstice, also recognized as the birth of the Egyptian sun god, Isis, and it was celebrated   in a carnival-like way.

Intent on bringing “christianity” to the pagans  and thus extending the power and wealth of the church  of Rome, they incorporated days  that had been worshipped as “holy” to the pagans and added a “twist”.

The church  decided  to make   the 25th of December,  this Roman  holiday,  one of “christian” worship.  They needed a reason, so they declared it  to be the birthdate of  Christ..the Messiah.

That’s how it became a “holy” day..created by  by what became the Roman Catholic Church.. and you know how I feel about  that church.

To make things more palatable,  they even incorporated  symbols for christmas , that were pagan  staples..trees,  wreaths and even mistletoe.

So, the 25th of December, became” christmas”, a “holy” day dedicated to celebrating the birth of Christ, instead of Isis or whatever  name their “sun god” was named ..don’t get me started on Ishtar, uh Easter, that comes  later.

Next..It was stated that the shepherds were “tending/ herding” their sheep.  In Judea, the weather would’ve been very cold at that time of year and the shepherds would’ve been “hunkered” down with their flock.

There’s another reason, even more compelling,   Jesus would not have been  born under the sign of the “Goat”..Capricorn.  I’m a “Capricorn”, and my personal  traits are not those that Jesus would possess..

I’m thinking it was in the Spring, and my best guess would be late March,  early April,  and He would’ve   be an “Aries”..a ram,  because Spring is when things start to begin..bobnpaul
