127..EPHESIANS #1
Paul has said that "Now we see through a glass darkly( dimly)"..actually according to Concordant translation it should be "distortedly" or in a distorted way, but that is too clumsy for me, and as a result in my play, ALL THINGS TYO ALL MEN..The Life of St Paul, I use dramatic license, "dimly", which has a "ring" to it.
Now, what did he mean by this?
I believe in the beginning, when he set out to bring the gospel as recdeived by the Holy Spirit that he may have been somewhat confused, when he realized that the gospel as espoused by the other apostles, were from the human Jesus, wheras Paul was being taught by the "ascended" Jesus..the spiritual.
He contended with the chief apostles to ensure that they accepted his teachings, which were markedly different.
Where were they different?
Essentially the difference lay in what the other apostles believed must be done in order to deserve ones place in the kingdom, not unlike what is being taught in today's church. By your works you will prove your faith..Give yourself to Jesus and He will receive you, etc. Another tenet was that due to His sacrifice, one is "pardoned" of his/her sins. Still another was the need for water baptism and repentence.
These apostles were preaching about a kingdom here on earth that would be governed by Jesus the Christ and one in which they and their followers would reign for a thousand years.
Now, Paul knew that "nothing" is required by anybody to "receive" Jesus. Having made the supreme sacrifice, as the Son of God, nothing more is required. No human action could ever be that great! And, Paul also knew that our sins azre not"pardoned", but rather "justified"..as though trhey have never and will ever be committed. Again, he knew that we were baptized by the spirit of Jesus Christ. He rarely baptized anybody..nine times, I think.
He also knew that "believers"are a part of the body of Jesus Christ, which was never taught by the other apostles
Yet, he probably wondered that, if there was a marked difference in the two gospels, why would our eventual lot in life be the same?
Then, he was exposed to the ultiumate truth, I believe after he ascended the heavens.
It was then he came fsce to face with the truth, that the believers ultimate lot would be in the heavens, as brought out in Ephesians, the first of the "prison epistles"..paulnbob
