100..CHRISTMAS
No pix, but you know what I look like..
As I hum one of the cherished Christmas hymn, I'm feeling Christmas, Bah Humbug!
Unlike the "religious" souls who keep saying "Put the Christ back in Christmas", I say take Him out all together, and celebrate the 25th of December as one of joy and gift-giving to celbrate the winter solstice.
Because, as with Easter, Christmas is another holiday incorporated by the "Church" to accomodate the pagans who celebrated the winter solstice, which usually takes place about this time of year.
It was seen by them as the "reversal of the Sun's ebbing presence in the sky, concepts of the birth or rebirth of sun gods have been common and, in cultures which used cyclic calendars based on the winter solstice, the "year as reborn" was celebrated with reference to life-death-rebirth deities or "new beginnings" such as Hogmanay's redding, a New Year cleaning tradition." (from Wikepedia)
Many of the symbols associated with Christmas come from the Scandinavian countries, who celebrated for 12 days , and preparations were made for the hard months to come, by slaughtering cattle and putting aside grain and a other food stuffs.
This year it falls on the day in which I'm writing this, 21 December, the longest night of the year.
Jesus was no more born on the 25th of December, or any day in December, thatn I was, because "shepherds don't tend their flock" in the winter, they hunker down.
Besides, it's very doubtful that Jesus would be a "Capricorn". I'm one, and the characteristics of one don't jibe with who our Lord was.
Some studies reveal that the "Star" that the Wisemen/Maggi followed was probably caused by a conjunction of planets Venus and Jupiter, which is a rare occurence, and this occurred on 17 June. A Gemeni? Of course it does say that a Gemeni has two diferent sides to his personality..Man and Super Man?
When Jesus' birth actually occurred, noone is certain, obviously, but for sure it wasn't on the 25th of December..bobnpaul
